Tunnel Closure Information
Keeping Downtown Seattle Moving
The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel
In order to accommodate light rail coming in 2009, the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel must be retrofitted and upgraded for use by both rail and bus. This will require the tunnel to be closed for up to two years, starting on September 24, 2005. The buses that currently run in the tunnel will travel on surface streets during that time. $16 million dollars in project mitigation are underway to help keep downtown moving during the temporary closure.
Programs and products for employers and commuters during tunnel construction
Telework assistance. Commuter Challenge is working with King County Metro to provide information and assistance to employers wishing to implement or increase the use of telework during the tunnel closure. Workshops to showcase how telework could benefit your company and how to get started were held in 2005. For more information on the workshop information and materials, click here.
