The University of Washington identifies strategies that enhance access to the Seattle campus by all transportation modes. The U-Pass program is the cornerstone of the transportation program at the University and provides a very valuable package of flexible, low cost transportation choices for students, faculty and staff. The Right To Ride transit benefit of U-Pass include unlimited access to public transit with fares covered on Metro, Kitsap Transit, Community Transit, Pierce Transit, Everett Transit and Sound Transit as well as parking management techniques that provide incentives for carpool and vanpool parking. The program is rounded out with green programs with an emphasis on bikes and walking. Secure bike parking is made available with the most extensive university bike locker program in the United States! The program is so successful, that only a minority of campus commuters choose to drive alone to the University.
The University places a big emphasis on greener alternatives – those with lower environmental impacts, lower carbon emissions and fewer community impacts- results in increased participation and contributes to a cleaner and greener region. The U-Walk program created last year encourages members to join walking groups and participate in walking events. Zimride is the largest online social rideshare community in the country and is a part of the University private network to encourage ridesharing on a casual basis. The University of Washington is in the elite of all commute programs with its very focused and compelling plan with fantastic results.
