At the awards ceremony...

The staff from Seattle Children’s Transportation Department was thrilled to accept a well-deserved Diamond Ring Award.

Three winners earn "Diamond Ring"

Diamond Ring winners are visionary organizations that achieve stellar results year after year through innovation and creation of outstanding trip reduction programs. Commuter Challenge honored three organizations in 2010 that represent the top tier within King County. Each has been a Diamond Award winner multiple times over the last 17 years. Hats off!

2010 "Diamond Ring" for Outstanding Leadership

Seattle Children’s

Seattle Children’s outstanding long-term commuter services program is recognized throughout our region and beyond. Innovative transportation solutions for regional problems result in deep commitment to providing alternative transportation programs for its employees, neighbors and clients.

The exceptional medical care provided to children and families throughout the Northwest is mirrored in the exceptional solutions for which the Seattle Children’s Transportation Office is known. The CEO, for example, rides in a vanpool with other Seattle Children’s executives. Alternative commuting is ingrained in the day-to-day life of staff.  The commute program provides a full menu of choices to meet all needs and interests, including an online commute tracking system called My Commute Tools, implemented in 2009. This tool tracks environmental impacts as well as daily choices and gives bonuses if earned or charges fees if required. This is a real-time system and also allows casual carpooling partnerships to develop. Seattle Children’s supports active healthy lifestyle choices by providing lots of assistance with biking and walking, such as a company bike program on campus that gives each participant bike tools to use. Seattle Children’s is a regional leader in developing employer-driven solutions to the transportation challenges facing Seattle and the Puget Sound area.

*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
