2010 Diamond Award for Organizational Leadership

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI)

REI has a rich company culture and highly engaged employees. Their ongoing work/life balance is an important part of the company’s core values. In 2010, REI was named 14th in FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” list—the 13th consecutive year it was named to the list. Across the company, REI is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including the incorporation of commute trip reduction into the corporate culture through outstanding programs and leadership endorsement. Programs that encourage and support employees to adjust their commuting behaviors include a 50 percent public transportation subsidy as well as vanpool, car share and flexible work programs. For more information on how the company is working to reduce its environmental impact, visit www.REI.com/stewardship.

*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
