Soroya works for Physio-Control located in Redmond off of the Willows Road area where transit service is limited. Physio-Control is a pioneer of defibrillation technology and the world leader in external defibrillation for more than five decades. As the ETC for her company, Soroya champions trying alternative commutes for the employees who work there. Soroya applied for and received two R-TRIP grants from the City of Redmond. The first grant was to create an incentive program for employees to go with the subsidies offered by the company. She advocated for a greener solution to recording commute trips and requested all employees use the online R-Trip Commute calendar which eliminated the use of paper documentation. The second grant was a “Going for Green” program to encourage employees to use any alternative to get to work to earn a gift card.
In a suburban location, the results show that 141 commuters out of 535 employees on site are carpooling, vanpooling or walking! This translates to over 5,000 pounds of carbon monoxide eliminated. Soroya has a great attitude, and with it, a proven track record of success.
