The University of Washington identifies strategies that enhance access to the Seattle campus by all transportation modes. The U-PASS program is the cornerstone of the transportation program at the University and provides a valuable package of flexible, low cost transportation choices for students, faculty and staff. Choices include unlimited access to public transit with fares covered on Metro, Community Transit, Pierce Transit, Everett Transit, Kitsap Transit, and Sound Transit as well as parking management techniques that provide incentives for carpool and vanpool parking. The program is rounded out with green programs that emphasize bicycling and walking. Secure bike parking is made available with the most extensive university bike locker program in the United States!
According to the University’s 2008 survey, 79% of the campus population commutes using a greener option than driving alone. The University’s emphasis on greener options—those with lower environmental impacts, lower carbon emissions and fewer community impacts—results in increased participation. and contributes to a cleaner and greener region. The University of Washington is in the elite of all commute programs with its very focused and compelling plan.
