2008 Diamond Award for Organizational Leadership

Harborview Medical Center
Seattle

Harborview is the only medical center on First Hill that provides dedicated shuttle service from Colman Dock, the trains and bus tunnels for employees and clients commuting to the campus. The program has grown in popularity since inception five years ago and was expanded in 2007 to 10-minute service.  Harborview has a great package of commute options for staff including a subsidized UPASS as part of the University of Washington transportation program. Carpoolers move to the head of the line for parking space. The average wait time for a parking space is over three years. The ETC coordinates all the commute options into an effective program. Results are impressive.

*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
