Hospital employees reduce drive-alone rate by 22%
Overlake Hospital and Medical Center, located on the east side of I-405, has over 2,250 employees, many with census-based and rotating shift schedules. The staff and management show diligence, enthusiasm and terrific effort in providing employees of the hospital with options to driving alone, including offering a fully subsidized Flexpass to encourage a switch to alternative methods of getting to work. Additional amenities include covered bike parking, lockers for walkers and bikers, a parking management program with reserved priority parking for those carpooling to work. A CTR team was formed to implement and promote the program to all staff on a regular basis. In the most recent survey, the hospital's employees reduced their drive-alone rate by 22%. ETC Janet Smith says, "Overlake Hospital and Medical Center is a family of employees that work as a great team to make the CTR program work. Teamwork is the emphasis, not the individual."
*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level
employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration
of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant
vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
