| Dear Helen: I've been impressed with the results achieved by our employee commuting program. Much credit is due our employee transportation coordinator, who has worked hard to promote ridesharing and telework. As a result, we've retained some key employees and made more efficient use of parking and office space. Our ETC has attended training, but I'd like to invest in him and our commuting program. Can you recommend additional training or a professional association? Executive VP Dear
Exec: And yes, I can recommend a national conference that is going to be held right in our backyard. The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) will hold its 2001 conference August 19-22 in Portland. You may wish to plan ahead and budget funds to send representatives to Northwest Passages: Rethinking Mobility. This series of workshops and seminars will be planned and hosted by ACT's local Cascade Chapter, comprised of commuter experts from private businesses and government agencies in Washington and Oregon. I also encourage you to sign your organization up for an ACT membership. An organizational membership will permit you to send two representatives to the conference at reduced fees. Membership in ACT also provides a quarterly publication on commute issues and an opportunity to have a say in the shaping of transportation policy at the national level. (ACT employs a lobbyist in Washington D.C.) The local Cascade Chapter has quarterly meetings, an electronic newsletter, and offers excellent networking opportunities within the Pacific Northwest. Please call 206-389-8656 to ask
