Having everything right at hand makes HOVing easy
Honeywell is a pioneer in aerospace flight safety products. The Redmond campus, which has been in business for 30 years, has more than 900 employees, nearly 350 of whom use an alternative to commuting alone to work. In addition to a full array of standard transportation benefits, Honeywell provides a variety of on-site services, eliminating the need for employees to have cars to run errands during the day. This level of management commitment has earned Honeywell a Commuter Challenge Diamond Award for organizational leadership.

Honeywell has a store on campus selling personal items, gift wrap, cards, discount movie passes and sports tickets. The store also has a packaging and mailing service, a copy center and film development. An ATM machine and dry cleaning service are located on campus. Honeywell also has a shuttle to and from a local health club.

The company offers on-site health maintenance services such as annual mammograms, bone density, blood and cholesterol testing, flu shots and massage therapy.

“Employees really appreciate the on-site facilities,” said Employee Transportation Coordinator Jennifer Johnson. “By not having to leave work to get personal errands done, it allows them to leave their car at home and makes their day less stressful.”

To further reduce the need for employees to use their cars during the day, Honeywell recently establish the Schools Out program and built the Honeywell Learning Center. The Schools Out program provides on-site daycare on days when school is not in session. The Honeywell Learning Center is an on-site training facility, which eliminates the need for employees to have a car to attend training sessions at other locations.

Honeywell provides a 100 percent subsidy for vanpools, Metro, Sound and Community transit riders, and participates in Guaranteed Ride Home for ridesharing employees who need to leave work unexpectedly or work overtime.

“Despite a time of layoffs and budget reductions, our management recognizes the need for a strong commute trip reduction program that includes a financial benefit to our employees,” Johnson said. “In addition to funding the benefits, they have allowed the necessary staff time and provided the personal support needed for success.
