Transit moves trip
reduction forward at HNTB
HNTB's Seattle area branch is located in downtown Bellevue, near the transit center. Just over the CTR-affected mark of 100 employees, the Bellevue office provides extensive commute options to its employees, emphasizing public transportation services. All employees are eligible for a monthly $65 FlexPass subsidy. The FlexPass program supplies subscribers with trips on Sound Transit and Metro and a guaranteed ride home in case of emergency or illness. We know the impact commuter traffic and stress can have on both the workplace and the environment, Vice President Milton Smith said. We strive to reduce these concerns. HNTB has achieved impressive results from its transit subsidy; of 128 employees at the Bellevue office, 69 ride the bus to work regularly, a total of 54%. This is an increase of 14% over last year. A decision several years ago not to relocate away from the nearby proximity of the transit center paid off for HNTBa costly move was avoided and employees are increasingly utilizing the company's transit incentives. Location decisions
based largely on transportation access HNTB charges for all parking except vanpools, provides a covered bicycle rack facility, and incorporates information into its new employee orientations that encourages and promotes commute options. The combination of close proximity to transit services, extensive transportation subsidies, and a well-rounded parking management program represent HNTB's dedication to reducing commute trips among its employees, and the overall of reduction of commuter traffic in King County.
