CTR non-affected organization provides extensive transportation options
The Bellevue Downtown Association provides many different services to Bellevue businesses, including working with tenants in high rise buildings to reduce employee commute trips. Located in heart of downtown Bellevue, the BDA knows the importance of a strong commute trip reduction program to the city's economic vitality. So when the association implemented its own transportation program, it did not do so because a state law required it but because the BDA knows every commute trip reduced helps improve local mobility. The Bellevue Downtown Association is presented the Diamond Award in special recognition of its commitment to commute reduction.

Robert Glann and Charlie Hafenback accept the Bellevue Downtown Association's Diamond Award.

The Bellevue Downtown Association employs 14 people who each receive a 100% subsidized FlexPass. Additionally, carpoolers are granted preferred parking in the building's parking garage, and the BDA reimburses carpoolers' parking fees. Vanpool programs are available at a cost of $60 to employees. Any additional vanpool costs incurred by employees living in neighboring counties are reimbursed.

“We fully encourage our employees to utilize commuting options whenever possible,” Steve Gilbert, Vice President of Transportation said, “and we provide a complete commute orientation to our employees.”

Well-rounded commute programs crucial
Transit is the mainstay of the small commuter contingent represented in the Bellevue Downtown Association. The office is conveniently located next to the Bellevue Transit Center, and eight BDA employees ride the bus to and from work each day. Employees also take transit to meetings held in Seattle and areas within Bellevue outside walking distance.

“Our theory is to try to take transit first,” Gilbert said. “If employees take the bus to work or related meetings around Bellevue or into Seattle, the company isn't paying for the parking and the company's not paying for the mileage.”

In addition to a large percentage of employees using public transportation, the Bellevue Downtown Association also has one person who teleworks on regular basis, one person who carpools every day with a Boeing employee, and two employees working compressed workweeks.
